Spectrum-enhanced Olympus E-M5H for IR Photography

This is the initial snap shot taken by Dr. Brian Matsumoto. IR photography with modified E-M5 and Hoya IR80 filter.

EVF allows for human eye to see IR spectrum even IR filter is set in front of lens. This is big benefit for composing since IR filter is totally black to see for human eye to see through regular optical viewfinder. High speed contrast AF function is also very capable of auto-focusing though IR filter. Conventional phase AF technique has the focus shift problem due to lens’s chromatic aberration in IR region.  So we can use the modified E-M5 like the stocked cameras. I believe modified E-M5 is very potential for terrestrial IR photography as well as special scientific imaging. I expect Dr. Brian Matsumoto will keep updated on his work using with the camera. There are a lot of beautiful pictures taken with his wife – Carol. Also there are  many books written up by them.
