Handheld 50FL

These were taken with 50FL + E-PL1 during bird festival. Only common birds including the flying Eskimo besides yacht harbor. Pointing and focusing the flying targets while holding 400mm focal length optics were very challenging.  At least the weight was not the issue at all though. More than half of shots were NG.  Next I try to use Canon 5D Mark II with the focus indicator. Full frame sensor(wider field of view) and focus indicator might be helpful to keep up with the moving targets while manually focusing. The body has no image stabilizer though.

BTW, I found out some of recent Canon cameras have the image crop function in movie mode. That is 640×480 SD movie. I’m interested in how this function is useful to bird movie. I’m wondering if it creates the close-up effect without degrading the image quality. Since it is not digital zoom, I expect that works well especially for small targets like birds. One day I’d like to have the chance to try.
